About
This book was born from a desire to "bring energy to someone" and to "be prepared for emergencies."
Over the past ten years, I have spent time in disaster-affected areas, engaging in recovery support and academic research. Through these experiences, I have gained insights that I hope to share with as many people as possible, in the hopes that they may be useful in some way. This picture book was inspired by the findings of my doctoral dissertation titled “A Study on the Role of Planners through Reconstruction of Livelihoods Led by the Private Business ? A Case Study of the Yuriage Wharf Morning Market in Natori City, Miyagi Pref. After the Great East Japan Earthquake.”
Based on that research, I created these characters and used the world of imagination to illustrate the process from disaster to recovery. Of course, real-world recovery involves many difficulties and challenges. But I hope this book can be a small spark of hope for someone going through a tough time-a gentle nudge to look forward, and a source of encouragement.
Please enjoy the story of Puni Puni-kun and the lively market full of energy!
The full dissertation will be made freely available to the public in 2025.
